What I would change about my faculty

Good morning dear readers, 

in today's post we will talk about the university where I study, specifically about the Visual Arts degree and we will comment on what changes I would make, having already completed more than half of the courses.



My career consists of 46 branches, of which I have already completed 40, consisting of initial practical branches, which would introduce me to university life and complex branches, which bring us closer to the artistic practice, being writing and the production of work a high percentage of these branches. 

In my time studying Arts, I have interacted with many generations and classmates, with whom we discuss about the relevance or usefulness of these courses. It is in most of the conversations where we bring up how important are the branches of aesthetic thinking, a branch that we all agree is essential, but we all differ in the number of times it appears during the career, so I would propose to lower the branch to the contents that are seen in aesthetic thinking 3 and 4, to get the most out of the teaching that gives us.

My second proposal to change in the curriculum would be to move some branches of the semester, because it seems that the theoretical branches in the 5th semester are what we seek the most, when as colleagues we consider more relevant the maximum presence of practical branches, to obtain a wide range of tools that we could do in the last year with the final work project, so we propose a change in the mesh to occupy the schedules of aesthetic thinking in complementary workshops, thus having 2 complementary courses in semester 5 and 6.

The third proposal would be in favor of the academic load, because understanding how important are some of the contents that each branch delivers, I propose a restructuring of the contents, in order to make the most of the workshop in the time that corresponds to it according to the curricular mesh, because today being the second generation that uses this mesh, there are still some problems in terms of the academic load that corresponds to each branch, thus complicating students to complete and deliver every project they work on with the other branches that accompany them during the semester, because the time required for these workshops outside the classroom, does not correspond to the load proposed by the curriculum.

Another proposal that I can not let pass, is regarding the Faculty of Arts, which for years has demanded changes in its structure, because it does not have the requiered basic minimum facilities, such as working bathrooms or enough transit spaces according to people with movement difficulties, and as far as we know there is no plan regarding any of this problems. It is so evident that you could even enter to postgraduate in the faculty and you would observe that it is not a building, but rather a conditioned container, which does not integrates correctly to the university, that is why I would propose many changes, but I would start with reforming the floor that covers the entire university, in order to give anyone wishing to enter a good welcome. 

As a last proposal and to close this post of reality in the Faculty, I would like to propose a methodology more in line with the needs of the students, because, although in the Faculty of Arts our teachers are recognized artists, with studies and constant movement in the environment, they do not meet the basic characteristics to teach about the environment in which they develop because they are constantly absent from class or disconnected from the linear process that the student go through in the branch, This is why I would propose a methodology that benefits both the students and the teachers, because I consider that the artists who teach the branches, are an excellent introduction to artistic life outside, but are not correcting the process of study of the same, since most of the cases the assistants are the one correcting, teachers of lower rank and salary, who have a greater knowledge of the students who correspond to the branch. I would propose to leave the assistant teachers as the head of the branches, being the important artists, some teachers who come specifically in the final stage of the creative process, so their disconnection from the process, is more beneficial to all when it is more necessary, with specific and direct corrections, which in the end do not confuse during the search and clarity of the work.

Having said all this, I will begin to say goodbye, because I believe that the subject is quite extensive and proposes situations that have been happening for many generations.
